　　Terms of Reference of the Center :

　　（1）To verify the safety and effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacology under the guidance of the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and through clinical work.
　　（2）To further develop clinical and research work of TCM and promote it to a higher level based on the current experiences accumulated through scientific research and clinical practice over the past few decades. Try every means to explore the mechanism of TCM, thus provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of diseases.
　　（3）As a TCM literature and information consulting center, establish a complete system of TCM databases to facilitate information exchanges.
　　（4）To provide training opportunities for foreign students.

　　（4）To study quality control standards of Chinese materia medica
　　（5）To study the pharmacodynamics and mechanisms of compound prescription of Chinese materia medica
　　（6）To study on traditional Chinese medicine for prevention and treatment of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and other severe epidemic diseases
　　（7）To compile reference materials of traditional Chinese medicine in foreign languages and
　　（8）To provide training of Chinese materia medica for foreign scholars

　　The Terms of References of the Center :

　　(1) To popularize WHO Standards on Acupuncture Nomenclature and Standard on Acupuncture Clinical Research;
　　(2) To carry out experimental and clinical research to validate the safety and efficacy of acupuncture;
　　(3) To study the principles of acupuncture analgesia and approaches for improving analgesic effect;
　　(4) To study the essence of meridians and collaterals and relevant theories of meridians and zangfu organs;
　　(5) To perfect ways for acupuncture training and provide training opportunities for international participants.
